Kindergarten Helpful Tips
When drawing a HEN, our first assignment - students have used letter recognition - we started with a large "U" that our hand can fit into then we drew a small "u" inside for the wing. A Circle for the head. A sideways "v" for the beak. The number 1 or letter L for the legs.
**What you can do at home - find an object. Study the object. Then spy all the letters, lines and shapes that you can to help you draw the object.
Concepts that we are working on for our second assignment are recognizing how to draw our body with ovals. Students drew a circle for their head. A large oval for their body. We have recognized where our joints are on our body that have allowed our arms and legs to move. Students are drawing a large oval for their bicep. A medium oval for their forearm and a small oval for their hand. Their legs are drawn the same way.A large oval for their thighs, a medium oval for their calves and small ovals for their feet. The importance of drawing with the ovals is to show them how to create gesture drawings. When you see their completed painting you will see their "gesture" running, dancing, jump roping, catching a ball ...
As we continue to work on our self portraits students will learn about the space of their paper focusing on the focal point ( the portrait) and the negative space (the area around them.
Students are learning as they paint their portrait about primary and secondary colors.
Students are focusing on details using oil pastels within their self portrait.
Students wrote an artist statement sharing what their gesture is doing.
Learning how to draw a road in perspective with simple lines and letter recognition. Students are designing a wonderful crayon resist perspective of a road. Learning about space: foreground, middle ground and background.
Kindergarten has created pinch pots by rolling and forming clay. Students have glazed their pots and watched them transform into a functional work of art.
Snowflakes - students have drawn a six sided snowflake with patterns. Students have learned how snowflakes form with the cold weather developing patterns. They have also learned 9 facts about snowflakes.
